Officers shot and killed a Columbus man Monday night in his Linden home. The man told a police dispatcher minutes before the shooting that he had a gun and was going to use it if another man didn't leave his property.

John E Kaufmann JR told the 911 operator that he had invited a man over to his house but now wanted him gone. He told the dispatcher that he had a 9-milimeter in his pocket and if his guest didn't leave, he was going to shoot.

Around the same time his guest contacted 911 alerting the dispatcher that he had a gun to his face.

The 911 recordings reveal that the two men were arguing over who had awakened the other. One of the men said to stop accusing him of anything and call it even.

Sgt. Rich Weiner, a police spokesman said that one officer approached the front while the other approached the back. The officer located in the front saw that Kaufmann was pointing a gun at another man. The officer who entered from the rear of the building ordered Kaufmann to drop the gun. When Kaufmann refused, the officer identified as Bryan Mason fired multiple times.

Kaufmann died in RIverside Methodist Hospital from fatal gunshot wounds.
