A former Westland police officer was charged with murder in Florida after police say he shot and killed an employee at a restaurant.

Brian Mytych, 43, was arrested around 1 a.m at the Hennessy's Bar and Grill in Oldsmar, Florida. Police say the suspect called 911 to tell them that he shot a cook at the restaurant, stated the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

When police arrived, they found 33-year-old David Brown, inside the restaurant with multiple gunshot wounds. Brown was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities say Mytych allegedly admitted to deputies that he came back the bar and shot Brown.

"Brian Mytych had worked for the Westland Police Department for several years. Approximately two years ago, he left because of an off-duty medical issue. Because of his off-duty medical issue, he was no longer able to perform his duties as a police officer," stated Westland Police Department. "Approximately three months ago, his employment was officially terminated with the Westland Police Department for this reason."
