Police say a 9-year-old girl was shot in the leg while selling Girl Scout cookies on the north side of Indianapolis Tuesday.
The little girl had just left her apartment with her sisters around 4 p.m. They were headed to a neighbor when a blue Ford Expedition drove past out front.
A witness says an arm stuck out the window and it held a gun.
“They walked outside the door, and they didn’t even get to make it across the lot and then the shots start ringing out,†Mark Chandler, the boyfriend of the little girl’s mother. “I came downstairs and she was sitting over there and that’s her little boot and the blood.†Chandler said, “it’s just ridiculous. She’s 9-years-old, man. She’s very smart. She don’t know nothing about no gun or no shots or whatever.â€
Witnesses said after being struck in her lower left calf, the little girl asked; “What did I do wrong?†She was transported to a nearby children’s hospital. She was later released and is now at home with her family.
Neighbors were shaken and said it’s not something they see in their family friendly community.
“The type of community this is, it’s kid friendly and for this to happen apparently with no direction, they was just shooting,†said Tamera Williams.
Police say the incident is still under investigation. As of now they don't have any further description of the suspects or a possible motive for the shooting.
