Police say a 9-year-old girl was shot in the leg while selling Girl Scout cookies on the north side of Indianapolis Tuesday.

The little girl had just left her apartment with her sisters around 4 p.m. They were headed to a neighbor when a blue Ford Expedition drove past out front.
A witness says an arm stuck out the window and it held a gun.

“They walked outside the door, and they didn’t even get to make it across the lot and then the shots start ringing out,†Mark Chandler, the boyfriend of the little girl’s mother. “I came downstairs and she was sitting over there and that’s her little boot and the blood.†Chandler said, “it’s just ridiculous. She’s 9-years-old, man. She’s very smart. She don’t know nothing about no gun or no shots or whatever.â€

Witnesses said after being struck in her lower left calf, the little girl asked; “What did I do wrong?†She was transported to a nearby children’s hospital. She was later released and is now at home with her family.

Neighbors were shaken and said it’s not something they see in their family friendly community.

“The type of community this is, it’s kid friendly and for this to happen apparently with no direction, they was just shooting,†said Tamera Williams.

Police say the incident is still under investigation. As of now they don't have any further description of the suspects or a possible motive for the shooting.

This is heartbreaking. This innocent little one even asks what she did wrong, instead the sick soul that would intentionally harm a little girl.

Thankfully the child was okay after it. Hopefully she won't be too scarred by the whole experience. And guns being out in the community? I don't have anything new to say about it.

This is just despicable and the culprit should be brought to book. This is a most heinous crime involving an innocent girl who didn't deserve this.Whatever reason or motive the shooter had, nothing could possibly justify this.

Now I'm here to tell you that is a crying shame. If a little girl selling cookies can be shot in broad daylight. How safe do you think the rest of us are. I am so glad I don't have small kids anymore. I still worry about my grown kids, but at least they are able to take care of themselves. God if you exist it's time to make your presents known destroy this mighty mess put the evil to rest.

Jesus Christ... its a good thing she wan't hit anywhere that would have been fatal. But regardless where the little girl was injured or what other people saw, I hope the law will be extra harder on criminals that injure children.

With so many gun related incidents, guns are supposed to be used to defend people and not attack people randomly. This is why gun laws need to be tighter, people abuse the power of the gun and think they can do what they want. I hope the culprits are found, named and shamed.

Sadly Gabe I am all for guns. Criminals rarely have legal guns. They don't go pick them up at the gun shop in town and register it.

I agree yes this is a TRAGIC incident, but last week I had a pedophile move in down the street from me and 2 sons. He is convicted of lewd acts with a child and possession of child pornography of children under 11. He also kidnapped and held hostage 3 women. His was found guilty, but because of a technicality he only served a year for that.He also has a breaking and entering charge on his record.

My neighborhood is a family neighborhood. We have 2 home daycare on side of the street on my block alone. The day he moved in and I was told because the judge lifted his living restrictions I applied for my right to purchase in my town and also conceal and carry classes. I've never been huge on owning a gun. However if your family is threatened an the other person doesn't care about the laws and the rules you bet I want to have the right to protect myself.

My heart just shattered into a million pieces. This girl was probably thinking about how she wanted to sell the most girl scout cookies in her troop so that she could win the prize (because that's what I always thought about, getting myself that bike!), and having a great time like most little girls do while selling their cookies.
Now there are going to be parents of girl scouts and even boy scouts who are going to become even more paranoid about their kids going out to sell cookies! I know that when I was a kid I always had one of my parents or my troop leader with me when I went out selling cookies, but at the same time even if this girl's parents were with her, it's highly unlikely that someone wouldn't have gotten hurt.

I just don't understand our society anymore. Who would shoot a little kid like that. Hopefully the police will find and charge this monster with attempted murder. Make an example out of him is the best way. Laws should get tougher in this country on gun control but the Republicans and Democrats cant seem to get anything done.

I'm away at school in Terre Haute right now, but my family lives in that area. I have no idea what I'd do if something similar were to happen to any of my siblings. Thank god that this little girl came out alright in the end. She and her family are so lucky.

The world is no longer a safe place for our children! Although these type of shootings seem to be targeted to certain areas, they do seem to becoming more frequent. Innocent children are constantly being harmed.

I hope for the best for this little girl. I can think of where the shooter should be shot, but am too polite to say it. And then the shooter needs to be caught and sent to prison, where the other inmates need to know exactly what the thug is in jail for.

I wish the best to the little girl. It's upsetting to see children that age to be living in such hostile conditions. We should not be bringing children into our business, especially when it comes to settling issues. Violence is not the answer. If we all came together to settle our problems with words, the world would be a much better place.

What the hell? If this is not enough to wake people up then nothing is ever going to be enough And sadly I don't believe anything will ever be enough. Maybe they should hand the shooter over to the little girls mother and let her deal with him.

This story is so sad. More and more people are becoming so careless. I don't understand what goes through theses shooters heads. I seriously hope the little girl is not to traumatized by this experience. She was completely innocent and this foolish thing happened to her. I hope that, at least finds this post and is somewhat sorry for what happened. Then again you can't read people's hearts and you don't know their true intentions. Its just, wow this story is very sad, but I'm and very glad that the girl is home resting.

This story brought tears to my eyes. I have a daughter so I can relate and can only imagine how those parents are feeling. when they quoted the little girl saying "what did I do wrong?" absolutely broke my heart. This world is getting crazier each day and I fear for my children's futures. I'm so glad she didn't die because of this senseless act and I seriously hope these people get caught and pay for what they have done.
