A mother and son have been arrested in a murder for hire plant in Monroe County.

Michigan State Police said the mother and son were both arrested and charged with trying to orchestrate the murder of three people.

Authorities say the targets were two witnesses and a police officer in connection to a Monroe County narcotics investigation. Police say they were tipped off about the plan after an informant informed them that Jontele Goodwin had asked him to kill three people who he believed to be responsible for his arrest.

"That informant prevented probably three homicides and we protected one of our own as well,†said First Lt. Tony Cuevas.

A conversation between Jontele and the informant was recorded, according to Michigan State Police. During that meeting, authorities say that is when the Jontele, offered the informant $2,500 to murder the three people.

Forty-three-year-old Lakeisha Goodwin of Romulus and 26-year-old Jontele Goodwin, were both arraigned on charges of solicitation to commit murder and witness intimidation on Tuesday.
