Nashville Police Officer Eric Wayne Mumaw lost his life in the line of duty.
Officer Mumaw died Thursday, February 2, 2017, while trying to save a suicidal woman in the Cumberland River.
Authorities say Officer Mumaw dove into the river to rescue a woman who had driven into the frigid water.
"He loved the Madison community and the Madison community loved him," Chief Steve Anderson said.
Officer Eric Mumaw, 44, was with the Metro Nashville Police Department for 18 years.
