Sergeant Greg Meagher died Sunday, February 5, 2017 after inhaling chemical fumes.
Meagher was killed when he went inside the Xytex facility to help a worker, and was overcome by what the fire department says was nitrogen gas.
The employee survived and is still hospitalized, according to Sheriff Lt. Allan Rollins.
Sergeant Meagher, 57, was with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office for thirty-three years.
Sergeant Greg Meagher leaves behind three daughters and one grandchild.
