A small plane crashed in a residential neighborhood around 10 a.m. Sunday morning, injuring the pilot, wrecking parked cars, and knocking out power in a four-block radius.

"It was boom. I was sitting in the living room and heard the noise, a loud noise and I thought maybe something exploded," said resident Tariq Malik.

The pilot, George Pettway, 56, was trapped in the plane after the crash. Authorities said he was conscious and alert while he was being extracted.

Pettway was taken to Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City. Officials said he was treated for several broken bones.

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis stated the FAA will be in charge of the investigation into what caused the plane to crash. Officials are currently on scene looking at the plane. They estimate the power will be back on sometime Monday evening.
