Really good question and this is definitely why I shouldn't be a cop. I probably would not arrest someone really close to me had he or she committed a crime. It would still depend on the situation and the brevity of the crime though.
There's a possibility that I'll blow the whistle. However, if I have my family... I might also think about keeping my mouth shut. It could be scary. I'll have to protect my family as well.
For me, the shooting is justified when the other person is armed or if the suspect assaulted the officer when he was already asked to put down his weapon. However, there are a lot of incidents that cops have been shooting unarmed people especially last year. That, I'm not sure I follow.
