California man arrested for punching toddler in face at Bakersfield market

Here's an article with all the details plus video. It seems as though he was the childs father. The mother was present at the time and didn't appear to do anything to stop this from happening. Justin Whittington 'punches his son in the face' in Vest Market, California | Daily Mail Online

    Rock On, Mom!!

That must have taken some guts from the mom! Imagine having to turn in your own son! She must have done so with a very heavy heart.

Woman Arrested For Trying To Kill a Police Officer

Whilst I don't condone this womans actions at all, attempted murder does seem a little harsh. However, @DianeLane is right to question what she actually wanted the gun for. Here in the Uk, she'd probably be charged with actual or grevious bodily harm or at a push, attempted manslaughter.

    Anonymous tip lines

I believe that these lines are answered by a live operator and are recorded so I'd always be reluctant to use one. I'd probably send an anonymous note instead as I would be very concerned about retribution if I were to "grass".

I LOVE the dumbest criminals stories

I quite like these shows too - some of the things they get up to are beyond stupidity and you really have to wonder what on earth possessed them!

Dispatchers Deserve More Credit Than They Get?

Dispatchers are literally the first people on the scene, albeit by telephone, and it's these people who have to make the initial decisions and give first line instructions. They do a fantastic job and save milions of lives.

    Best. Mother. Ever.

That is hilarious! OK, I know I shouldn't laugh but something tells me he's going to think twice before getting into any kind of trouble again!

Proposed Federal Laws For NYPD Training

Do you know, I think it could. I am reminded of that episode of "Fawlty Towers" where Basil is constantly reminding himself not to talk about WWII in front of his German guests! But, yes, a simple "If you're OK with me, I'll be OK with you" could well help.

    What a reunion!

Aw, this really is such a lovely story. There is a lot of good in this world and it doesn't hurt to be reminded of this occasionally.

California Law Regarding Realistic Looking Replica Guns

Some cops certainly can be trigger happy and simply banning fake guns is just skirting the issue. Like putting a sticking plaster on a broken leg! You'd think that the powers that be would want to tackle the real problem wouldn't you.

Is making homophobic remarks an arrestable offence where you are?

It certainly is a hate crime where I am and hopefully, more and more countries will follow suit in the future. Hate speech isn't always threatening, sometimes it can be very subtle indeed.

    Google App

This app has been around for some months now and I'm really surprisefd that it hasn't been banned outright. I can understand that people might want to avoid certain areas but really, I'm not certain whether this is a great idea or whether it will just be abused. A mix of both, I imagine.

Swedish Police Stop Vicious Assault On New York Subway

The Swedish policement were off to see Les Miserables. Needless to say, the Swedes are very progressive and free thinking. Could you even begin to imagine a bunch of US or UK cops off to see something like this together?

    Community Policing?

When I hear the term "community policing", I instantly think of the country's volunteer Community Support Officers who are the butt of much ridicule here in this country. they are frequently labelled as being "too stupid" for police academy and not "proper coppers". It's been quite some time...

    Who indeed?

I wouldn't fancy being a cop at all. It's a thankless task and I'm not surprised that recent incidents are discouraging even more people from joining. I think that in order for the number of applications to increase, more needs to be done to regain the public trust and make the police seem like...

How did you eat your last potato?

I had french fries earlier this evening too. We call them chips here in the UK though.

    Dog Shot By Officer

Of course, there is unlikely to be any follow up of this incident. Even though it seems as if this situation could have been easily avoided, the deputy is no doubt using the excuse that he wanted to get to the house as quickly as possible. He'll most likely get away without so much as a slap on...

Proposed Federal Laws For NYPD Training

You'd think that these should be guidelines for behavior anyway wouldn't you! especially the one about not being racist. It comes to something when cops have to be reminded not to be discriminatory.

Becoming a murderer without killing anyone?

Yes, it does seem like there is one law for some people and another one for the rest of us. I don't agree with the charges either - they should certainly have received the maximum sentence allowerd for housebreaking but to hold them responsible for the resulting death is unfair. I don't blame...

Mother reports 9-year-old missing, police say he was arrested

I wonder if it was like a plea bargain - the cops agreed to drop the charges on the condition that the mother took her complaint no further. Sadly though, I think this might only reinforce the boy's view that he can get away with things. I'm pretty sure that he needs some sort of psychiatric...
