For my sins, I probably do follow more high-profile trials than I should. And the thing is, a lot of them are only high profile because they fit the 'crime against suburbia' dynamic - i.e. beautiful family, with lovely wife/child, and impacted by crime. We get sucked into believing by the media...

How funny. I hadn't even considered this concept of the story of jaywalking as being possible. And the strange thing is that countries without auto industries have still adopted the principle of jaywalking, partly I guess as a control thing.

It's great to have a good news story here for a change. There's a lot of negativity going around about the role of the police, but this just shows how important they are in doing things that a lot of us wouldn't.

It would have to be London or New York for me. I'm from London so maybe there's a bit of bias behind that, but it's a great cosmopolitan, exciting and diverse city. And I've loved visiting New York - it feels so big and bustling. Love it.

It sounds like someone has a gripe with the police and wanted to make a statement in a very obvious way. Let's hope that that's all it is, rather than shooting because they assumed someone was in there.

Who knows what was going through his mind! Clearly he's not in a good place and needs to be locked up. It's probably better for the unborn child to be miles away from him as well. A distressing story all around.

It's horrible to see police killed in the line of duty. He was only doing his job. Again, if you in a society where carrying a gun almost feels as natural as carrying a smartphone you shouldn't be surprised when a lot of this kind of thing happens. A tense stand off leads to one or the other...

At least there's some good news on the 'crimes against the police' front. Not all of them are bad apples so people shouldn't go around attacking them either. Hopefully the perpetrator will be caught.

It's almost funny that this guy thought he could get away with impersonating a cop! Admittedly, he knows enough about the police to be able to fake it to some extent. But even then by saying that he's cop, it doesn't mean that she should be freed anyway. Both deserve what's coming to them.

At a swearing-in ceremony?! That's just crazy. Why would anyone do that? It just goes to show that the police aren't safe anywhere. I guess we may never know why.

I'm kind of speechless. Why a newborn baby deserves that kind of treatment is beyond me. It's such a sad reflection on society that this can ever happen. I just hope that the mother gets what she deserves.

That was incredibly eerie seeing in video form. I don't think I've ever seen someone get shot like that. I couldn't actually make out the gun though I'm sure police technology will be able to make it out more clearly.
