Deputy Saves Girl Choking On First Full Time Shift

Start as you mean to go on! Well done! At least we've got a good news story for the police. It's about time that the media starting to show the other face, the proper face, of what the police force set out to do.

Mom Accused Of Beating Infant Son To Death

That's so very sad. I hope she gets the help that she needs. We don't know the whole story, and who knows what's going in her head and her situation, but clearly at 17 years old she wasn't able to handle the situation.

Man Allegedly Set Wife on Fire

To commit the crime is one thing, and that's shocking. But to do it in front of your children is pretty unforgivable. They are going to be scarred for life after that. When he does eventually make it out of jail, and you would expect him to go to jail, I can't see his kids wanting anything to do...

Police Union Demand Protection Under Federal Hate Crimes Law

I'm not sure whether a "hate crime" approach particularly fits in the same way as it does with minorities that are under-protected by the law. Yes, the police have been targeted in certain situations but the judicial system already has tough sentencing for attacks on police, and is far keener to...

Dad Arrested In Fatal Stabbing Of Son

That sounds so sad. The child didn't deserve this. I hope that the man wasn't trying to get revenge on his ex-partner. It's horrible when a small child gets caught up in a situation like that.

Woman Allegedly Sneaks Gun Into Jail Inside Her Privates

Desperate people take desperate measures. Goodness knows what she was planning to do with the gun in prison anyway, but I can't see how having it there would have done anything but caused her additional trouble. I do wonder how sane she was though, given that she was high on heroin.

Reptile Shop Owner Allegedly Hit Workers With Lizard

It would almost be funny if it wasn't so bad on the animals themselves. How can you torment an animal like that and expect to get away with it? Some people really don't know how to manage themselves and their anger.

Two Suspects Arrested in Connection with Shooting of NY Officers

I'm glad someone that people have been arrested for this. But this pattern of crime on police has really got to stop! Otherwise, where does that leave any of us in terms of public safety?

Why do many police forces around the world not carry guns?

I think some of it might be cultural. In the UK, the idea of anyone carrying guns was so incredibly alien that even when criminals armed themselves, the public were outraged by the idea of the police walking the streets with guns. The whole gun debate is a big one in the US, but clearly in a...

Would you turn a loved one in?

I think I would. It's a tough one because your loyalties are invariably split and what you know is right isn't always what your heart is saying. I would like to think I would do the "right thing", whatever that actually is.

Any habits that you'd like to give up before 2015?

I'd like to give up procrastination. Or rather, I'd like to be more proactive. The success or failure of this year is really going to be down to me making more of an effort in a number of areas of life. At least I've got the right intentions at the moment.

    Police Killings On The Rise

I think the ambush element is the worst bit to me. There's stuff that goes on in the call of duty which you would expect. But when people go out of their way to take out the police, it's a sad indictment on society.

West Jordan Police Looking For Missing Officer

Hopefully all that's happened is that he's gone somewhere, banged his head, got a bit disoriented and will be found and taken home. Unfortunately, too many of these type of stories end with a bit of human tragedy.

Man Charged with Threatening Police on Twitter

When will people realize that putting insults down on Twitter or anywhere on social media is no different to shouting it out at someone in the street? Actually, it's slightly different. It's more cowardly.

    Wife/husband breaking the law

It would definitely depend on the type of crime it was. Certainly you'd have to have a chat about whichever crime, and question whether I was with the right person. But if it was a serious crime then realistically I would have to go to the police.

Man Allegedly Shoots At Two Officers

I guess it comes with terrain, but getting shot at in the line of duty doesn't sound great. Who knows what the real story was behind all of this. Either way, it's always good to have one less gun on the streets.

Mom Allegedly Beats Kid, Kills Puppy

She's got more than just "anger issues". For her to do that in front of her children is just plain cruel. She certainly needs help. Hopefully the boyfriend will work away from her with his dignity and life in tact.

    Teen Arrested For Terroristic Threat

Silly boy! And that's the problem - he's just a 17-year old that thinks he's being cool by putting something as stupid as that online. It's certainly not terrorism but you don't just go about posting things like that. I think he needs to get a better sense of how to communicate with the real world.

Man Tries To Run Over Police Officers, Shot Dead

It's all a bit chilling, if a bit rambling. Clearly he wasn't in a good space. I would love to know the story from the angle of the woman (Sarah) that he keeps talking about. He could well have been stalking her.

Mom Pleads Not Guilty To Killing Her Kids

Clearly this woman has a weird perspective on how children should be brought up. Living in squalid conditions is bad enough. But subjecting the children to a life that left three of them dead is disturbing. I hope justice is served.
