    Fire/smoke training

Recently, the law enforcement and firefighters in my area have been training at an abandoned building. They've been conducting thermal imaging training and white smoke billows out and fills the whole surrounding block. I'm just curious if anybody knows what they use? It doesn't smell or look...

Do you think men and women get treated differently in the law?

You always hear about people saying that women get off easier, but I think that's changing a lot these days. Women are just as capable of domestic violence as they are being a victim, and I hope it's being brought to light that they don't deserve special treatment just because they're a woman.

    Is it *FUN*?

I mean.. I'm sure there are some really difficult, stressful, awful moments - actually, I'm sure those are more than the alternative. But is it just genuine fun? I think it would be, in a weird way, to be able to see so many different stories of people I meet and things I see.

    Presence in hospital

Over the weekend I had to take my dad to the ER for dehydration and a bacterial infection, and I was surprised at the number of cops in the ER! There was one major 'incident' that brought in three patients (it sounded like a barfight - I was eavesdropping!) but even an hour or two before that...

    Ride Along (movie)

I just caught this on TV the other night and thought it was pretty good. The premise is that a police officer isn't thrilled by his sister's boyfriend, and needs to be proven that he's not useless. So, naturally, he takes him on a ride along. Along the way, they encounter a bad situation and...

    Accident scams

I know someone who was involved in a scam about an accident. A car followed him home, then called the police. The police showed up and knocked on their door, saying that the man claimed they rear ended him. My friend had NO clue what was going on, because this car was behind him the entire...

Where's the line from child discipline to child abuse?

With all this talk in the NFL, it's hard to draw a distinct line between what counts as discipline and abuse? I think we can all agree that what Adrian Peterson did was abuse, but there's no firm definition as far as I know? Is it leaving a lasting mark? Is it an age thing? Where's the line...

Have you ever been in a chase?

There's a news article in my city today about a guy who was running from a speeding ticket (65 in a 45 - but it also came out that he was driving on a suspended license), but he ended up crashing into a pole then into someone's house. Do these chases *ever* end well for the one running? I've...

Are you aware of events around your city?

This weekend I helped a friend put on a festival sponsored by the city. It was an art festival and took place in our downtown. A police officer stopped by to ask what it was all about. He wasn't inquiring as if he was going to shut us down, he was just curious because he hadn't heard about it. I...

Do you take anything for stress or anxiety?

I have anxiety issues and get stressed out easily, and I can imagine there are stressful situations that you can use a "chill out" for? Do you take anything to keep your emotions in check while dealing with the law?

Officer on leave pending investigation into Facebook posts

I'm not yet allowed to post links, so I'll just have to copy and paste the story here. This is from my hometown. What do you think?

What do you think about law enforcement shows?

I'm a big fan of all of the Criminal Minds, Castle, NCIS, Law and Order, CSI mumbo-jumbo. Don't get me wrong, I know they're completely silly, but they're just entertaining. Living the life day-to-day, what do these shows completely get wrong (besides the obvious things like zooming into a photo...

What is your more unique experience as a police officer?

Whoops - I can't edit the title but I meant to say **MOST** unique experience. Maybe it's something funny that happened, or maybe something truly heartbreaking. Maybe it was a kind gesture you did or had bestowed on you. Maybe camaraderie between other emergency responders/law enforcement, or...

    Hello!

Hi everyone. I just joined the site because I'm interested in hearing from a different perspective. I'm sick of hearing about all the riots and how law enforcement are always wrong, but I truly don't believe that. It's getting disappointing to see on the news how civil unrest is becoming...
