A 12-year-old girl was shot in the head while riding a scooter in Paterson, New Jersey, on Saturday night.
As of Sunday, the victim Genesis Rincon was considered to be brain dead. Genesis is expected to come off of life support sometime on Monday. Her family say they plan to donate her organs in hopes to save other lives.
"They're hurting, they're in mourning, but they're outraged," said the family Rev. Della Fischer. "This is senseless."
Police say the victim was playing with two of her friends when a stray bullet struck her in the head. They believe the shooter was aiming at someone else.
“Everybody’s pretty distraught. It’s like you can’t make any sense of things like this,†family friend Renea Simmons said.
Police are still searching for the gunman. The little girl's father pleaded for anyone with information about the shooter to talk to the authorities. "Say something," he said. "That was my daughter. That was my first daughter," the father said.
The shooting incident left everyone in the neighborhood devastated and extremely angry. “It’s not good when you’re not safe to come outside your own door and play around in the street. A kid can’t be a kid no more. That’s sad,†Clint Reid said.
More details in this post will be released as soon as they are made available.
