NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Service has resumed on the number 7 subway line following a suspension due to a mechanical problem that filled a tunnel with smoke.

Approximately 1,500 straphangers were stuck on board a stopped train for two hours.
The train was headed from Grand Central to Queens at about 8:30 a.m. when a part of a brake came in contact with the third rail causing a smoke condition, said FDNY officials.

A rescue train was brought in to push the train to Grand Central and retrieve the passengers.

It is not clear if anyone was injured.

All train service between Hunters Point and Times Square was affected. Commuters was warned to anticipate residual delays on the 7, N, Q and R lines.
