A 6-year-old boy drove his battery-powered ATV onto a suburban parkway before motorists rescued him.
Police say motorists came to the rescue after they spotted the little boy driving his battery-powered toy car on a New York parkway on Sunday.
At least three drivers surrounded the little boy to block him from traffic. One of them pulled over to get the boy and his ATV and move them onto the shoulder, said Westchester County police spokesman Kieran O’Leary.
"A couple of cars were behind him, maybe another alongside him a little bit, somewhat protecting him from the possibility of being struck by a car that wouldn’t have seen him in time," O’Leary said.
O’Leary said the boy was out with his relatives in a Mount Vernon park. A teenage cousin who was looking out for him got distracted and the boy drove off in his toy ATV. According to police they were located about ten blocks from the parkway. “It kind of just happened in the blink of an eye,†O’Leary said.

The boy's family spent about 30 minutes searching for him. After that they notified the police. Meanwhile police started receiving 911 calls that there’s a boy on the Bronx River Parkway operating a toy vehicle.
“He took the Oak Street ramp going north, comes down the ramp, is in the acceleration lane and then actually in the right lane of the parkway for a brief time,†O’Leary said.
Police arrived to the scene and the boy was taken to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital for observation. He was found to be just fine and was reunited with his family.
Authorities did not release the names of the boy nor his rescuers.

Motorists save his life, just a couple of weeks ago 3 boys lost their life here in my country driving one of those things with no helmet, a real danger.

This is a good example of the benefits of working together for the common good of mankind. We are our brother’s keeper; these motorists put the safety of the boy first instead of rushing to their destination. It is amazing how kids can move fast in a split second; the teen cousin must have been out of his mind as they looked for the boy.

That's a part of being human and having compassion, but on the other hand, who allowed the kid to the road with that?

Good thing that people were able to quickly form a safety zone around him to block other cars, but where the parents of the kid, instead of paying attention?

Humanity restored, thank God the kid was safe. Thanks to the individuals who reacted immediately to ensure the kid safety. The parents must undergo some kind of a seminar, lecture or community service so that they will be reminded of their responsibility as parent to their kid.
