An Arkansas man was arrested after police reportedly found the body of his 22-year-old girlfriend, Briana Butler, who was seven months pregnant.
Douglas True, 21, reportedly called 911 asking police that they come to the house.
Fort Smith Police responded to call around 11:52 a.m. on Sunday to a house on the 2900 block of South 66th Street. Police said when they pulled up to the house, True waved them into the driveway.
Upon walking into the house authorities found the lifeless body of Briana Butler stabbed to death and lying on the bathroom floor.
Butler's 2-year-old daughter, Bonnie, was found sleeping in the bedroom. She was transferred to a local hospital, and treated for minor injuries to her face.
Police conducted a search throughout the house discovered a knife they believe was used in the homicide. It was later confirmed that lacerations on her throat and torso were consistent with knife wounds.
True allegedly informed detectives that he was drinking the night before, when he got into a fight with Butler. But the suspect said he blacked out and woke up to the horrific scene the following day.
"True was advised of his rights and gave a statement admitting that he and Butler got into an argument that escalated to a physical altercation," according to an affidavit.
"True stated that he was intoxicated and did not remember what happened after that. True said that he got up in the middle of the night and found Butler's body in the bathroom and went back to the couch and passed out."
Joshua Butler, ex-husband and father of Bonnie, said she had been an attentive and conscientious mother.
"No human being deserves to be done like that," said Joshua Butler. "To take your anger and rage out on another person and just totally take them out, I mean that's just, cowardly right there."
Douglas True was arrested on suspicion of two charges of capital murder for Butler and her unborn child.
Chief deputy prosecutor Linda Ward said the investigation is ongoing and charges will be filed soon.
Authorities say the suspect called his mother before he dialed 911, to say he'd done a terrible thing and would spend his life in prison.
He is in Sebastian County Detention Center to be held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 30.

I read these kinds of stories and I wonder why people cannot walk away from a person instead of killing them. To add insult to injury the unborn baby died and the two year old was also injured. Alcohol does not make anyone do anything. Deciding to kill someone is a choice one makes. Laying the blame on alcohol does not work.
