Dad killed, daughter injured by small plane crash

A small plane crashed-landed Sunday on a Florida beach, killing a father who was walking along the sand and his daughter critically injured, police said.
The man died at the scene. The little girl was airlifted via helicopter to a hospital in St. Petersburg.
"One man is deceased, and a young girl, possibly around the age of 10 is very critically injured," Sarasota County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Wendy Rose said.
A woman who was also on the beach had witnessed the crash, was taken to Venice Regional Hospital and being treated for cardiac arrest.
Both pilot and his sole passenger were rescued and were uninjured, Rose said.
Rose said the pilot had contacted Venice Airport around 2:45 p.m. and informed them that his aircraft was in distress and was not going make it back to the airport.
"I do know the timing of his radio to the Venice Airport and immediate response was minutes so there was not, from what I understand, there was not a lot of time between his radio dispatch and the crash," she said.
The identity of the father and daughter have not been released.
National Transport Safety Bureau is investigating the tragic accident.
