Deputy Sheriff Devin Hodges died Thursday, June 1, 2017, during a training exercise on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina.
Authorities said Hodges fell from the boat during a joint training exercise involving the Army Corps of Engineers and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. He got stuck underneath the boat after his life jacket got tangled in the boat’s propeller.
He was taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Hodges, 30, first became a dispatcher in Anderson County at the age of 18. He had served police departments in Laurens County, Abbeville County, and Lander Police Department.
