Do generations follow each other into the force?

A friend of mine has a father in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and she told me it was a tradition on her family. How much pressure is there to continue the same career in the family? I guess it may be the same for the army or navy, but the police has been a traditional career or is it changing?

A few years ago, I had a friend whose older brother was a police chief somewhere. He was in high school and all he ever talked about was how he wanted to be a great cop like his brother. Unfortunately though, his dreams were shattered when his brother lost his job. He just lost interest or maybe he felt his brother's misconduct would work against him. So I suppose people whose parents or siblings are or were cops are more likely to join the police force.

I think it does happen quite often. Maybe not through familial pressure but by getting a unique insight into the job that you wouldn't get anywhere else.
