Police have confirmed four people are dead and at least eight people injured in a boat collision.
Authorities believe the boaters were out celebrating the Fourth of July holiday when the tragic accident happened late Friday night near Dinner Key Marina in Miami.
A spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission told reporters that the crash occurred around the time boaters would be heading back to the marina after the July Fourth fireworks display.
"Unfortunately in the past we've seen where accidents have occurred during that time," he said.
The Coast Guard was notified around 10:45 p.m. by one of the boaters who reported he'd been hit by another vessel and that his boat was taking on water.
He also told them that the vessel that collided into his boat did not stop following the accident.
Several law enforcement agencies were called in. Officers did pull a few people out of the water, however they didn't know for sure how many people were missing.
"We kept getting report after report of more people in the water," Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Ignatius Carroll said.
Rescue crews found the second vessel that they believe was involved in the crash. They found two unconscious females on board.
The victims were transported to Miami hospitals. Two adults, a male and a female, later died. This morning searchers located two more bodies in the water.
More details in this post will be released as soon as they are made available.
