Florida Mom Arrested After Kids Found Living In Filthy Home

A Florida mother is charged with child neglect after investigators said they found her five children living in a filthy house full of trash.
Yolander Lasane, 45, has been charged with child neglect after her children, aged 5, 9, 12, 15 and 17, are believed to have been living in the sickening conditions for many years.
Law enforcement described it as "horrific." They said it was a putrid-smelling house filled with garbage, urine-soaked beds and animal feces where five kids lived with their mother.
Authorities were called to the scene by a Department of Children and Family worker, who told police that she was worried about Lasane's 17-year-old child who had not been home in three weeks.
Child-protection workers had been trying to help the family for about a month, but services could not be provided because of "biohazard conditions in the home."
According to the police report, one of the kids allegedly begged the officers to be given a new family. He opened his mouth to show a set of rotten teeth when officials went inside the Orlando home.
"The severe medical and overall neglect was horrendous," police report stated.
When they checked on the house, investigators had to use a shovel to remove the trash so they could get inside and were immediately hit by an overwhelming smell, according to the police report.
Velasquez told the officer she had not cleaned the house in six months, the affidavit said. "It was evident that no part of this residence had been properly cleaned or maintained in years," police wrote in the report.
Police said all of the children's beds were crawling with bugs. The mother's bedroom was also filled with trash and feces, however it was in a lot better condition than the kid's.
The police report shows the children were sent to live with relatives and the state is arranging a more permanent placement. It added that animal-control workers removed the dogs that had been neglected and were suffering. The house has now been condemned.
Lasane was being held at the Orange County Jail on five counts of child neglect causing great bodily harm.
