Fort Worth Police Officer Shot, Suspect Killed

A Fort Worth police officer was wounded during a confrontation with a 40-year-old gun-wielding man at a Fort Worth, Texas home Thursday evening.

Officials said the police officers were conducting a welfare check at the home in the 4800 block of Hildring Drive in southwest Fort Worth around 6:45 p.m.

Officers knocked on the front door, and the woman told police her son was in his bedroom. When officers knocked on his bedroom door, the suspect allegedly opened fire at police.

The suspect allegedly hit a sergeant, a 19-year veteran of the department at least once. The other officers returned fire and killed the man. Police have not yet released the suspect's name.

Officials say the officer was shot in the lower abdomen. He was transported to Harris Methodist hospital and underwent surgery Thursday night.

"We all do this job for the love of the job and for the love of the community, and we all know what can happen," said police corporal Tracey Knight.

"But it is painful every time an officer-involved shooting happens, across the country, and it is especially when it happens here at home."

Police officers have it bad. With all of the media covering the shootings of innocent people, there is no trust with law enforcement. It seems the good officers get injured or killed for what the bad officers are doing. Hopefully all of this random killing will stop soon.

This is really becoming to common place. I know that a law officer hates to have to use deadly force, but sometimes they have to in order to protect themselves as well as others.
