The person accused of running over and dragging a Statham police officer with her vehicle has been arrested.

The hit-and-run happened Saturday afternoon in Barrow County, Georgia. Police announced the arrest of Jessica Fox, 28, Tuesday morning.

Officer Lofton had stopped Fox for a traffic infraction on Saturday. The suspect resisted arrest. She put the car into drive, took off while dragging Officer Lofton and running over both of his legs.

According to Statham police, the officer remained hospitalized with serious injuries.

Officer Lofton is resting as much as he can. He will undergo an MRI hopefully in the next few days. We are all overwhelmed with the prayers and good wishes sent by all for his speedy recovery, Statham Police Chief Allan Johnston posted on Facebook.
