Getting pulled over with firearm in my vehicle

I like to go target shooting. I usually go once a week and one of these days I'm sure a police officer is going to pull me over going to or coming from the range. I want to know what is the best thing to do if Im carrying a firearm in my car. Should it be the first thing out of my mouth when you come to the window?

Have your hands on the steering wheel and when the officer ask you for your license just say "ok but I also would like to tell you I have a unloaded firearm in the glove box"
