A Pennsylvania man is facing animal cruelty charges for allegedly giving a kitten heroin. He is also accused of choking the kitten with a rope and slamming it to the ground.
According to authorities a police officer patrolling in West Whiteland Township, Chester County, saw James Paul Myers, 24, parked in the middle of the street with his vehicle door open about 4:40 a.m. on Sunday.
When the officer first spotted the suspect he was allegedly abusing the small black kitten by the vehicle.
Police reported the kitten was bleeding from its face and some of its teeth had been knocked out.
Authorities said there was spray paint on the street close to the suspect’s car stating “Slam it you [expletive].â€
Police said it appeared the kitten had been dragged, and possible slammed into the ground.
"The kitten had clearly been choked. We can't tell if the kitten was dragged by the car or if it was hung," District Attorney Tom Hogan said.
Police executed a search warrant of the suspect's car. Authorities say they discovered bundles of heroin, hundreds of used bags of heroin, 46 hypodermic needles. They also found a rope that matched the one used on the kitten and a small box containing cat feces.

Hogan says it appears the suspect was under the influence of the drug and so was the young kitten.
"This is a two pound kitten that would fit in the palm of my hand. He would take a kitten, a defenseless kitten, and torture it this way," Hogan said.
Police transported the kitten to the ER at nearby Hope Veterinary Specialists. The kitten was examined by Dr. Jennifer Magilton and she confirmed the kitten had been given heroin. Dr. Magilton said she gave the kitten Narcan, a heroin antidote commonly given to humans.
The staff chose to name the kitten after the clinic, Hope. They say Hope is recovering nicely at the veterinary clinic and eventually will be sent to a facility for adoption.
"Hope is certainly making a good recovery since then. Eating, starting to show normal kitten behavior, actually playing," Dr. Gary Puglia said.
In addition to the animal cruelty charges, Myers has also been charged with drug possession and other related offenses. He is being held on $25,000 cash bail.
“There is no excuse for cruelty to a defenseless animal,†said Hogan. “The West Whiteland Police Department should be commended for intervening to stop this abuse. He also added that Dr. Magilton should be praised for her quick thinking to save the kitten’s life.

I don't know what people are thinking when they treat animals like that, but having this said I do know a woman that kills all the kittens her cat has because she can't afford to do the surgery to the cat.

I wonder why it is difficult to make the right choices for a number of people. This man could have walked to the nearest animal shelter and given the kitten away with no questions asked. There is no justification of hurting a defenseless animal; he will have enough time in jail to think about his actions. Thankfully the kitten is recovering.

The easy answer is drugs, once people try drugs they lose contact to reality. The harder answer is why people use drugs, that is more complex.

So not only did he give the cat drugs, he also beat the poor thing up?
I'm not sure how much he can be punished by animal abuse but I hope he get as severe a sentence as possible.
