Man Fatally Stabs His Parents, Two Young Sons

A California man allegedly stabbed to death his parents, his two young sons and the family's dog in their home Monday night.
Nicolas Holzer, 45, was taken into custody without incident and booked into jail on four counts of murder and is being held without bail.
Sheriff's deputies came to the house in Goleta, around 11 p.m. on Monday, Kelly Hoover, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, said in a statement. The suspect called 911, Hoover said, "and in a calm and matter of fact manner told a dispatcher that he had killed his family, which included his parents, two sons and the family dog."
When authorities entered the home they discovered the bodies of Holzer's mother and father, and his two young sons, ages 13 and 10.

Holzer told authorities he killed his father, William first. He then went to the boy's bedroom and stabbed them while they slept. He then stabbed his mother, Sheila, and then the family dog, said Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown. Authorities also said every victim had been “repeatedly stabbedâ€.
When asked why he committed these crimes, he claimed ‘I had to.’
Hoover said they recovered two large kitchen knives that they believe to be the murder weapons.
Court records indicate Nicolas Holzer and his ex-wife had divorced in 2006. He’d was granted full custody of his two sons after the divorce. Police said all three of them had lived with Nicolas Holzer’s parents for the past seven years.
Authorities have not released any information on a court appearance.

Holzer walks home kills his father, mother, two kids and the family dog. I thought he would then kill himself; instead he calls 911 and reports what he has done. Why would a sane man do this? His parents were there for him to raise his kids after his divorce; why repay them this way?
