New York police are searching for two suspects after say two officers responding to a robbery late Monday were shot and wounded in the Bronx. The shooting incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on Tiebout Avenue.

Authorities say the two officers who were shot had just finished their shifts in the 46th precinct but still answered the call about the robbery.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said five police officers, who spotted two men who they believed were the suspects, based on descriptions called in to police. Authorities say as the two officers approached one of the suspects on the street the other suspect inside the restaurant began shooting from the doorway.

Bratton said the officers returned fire, with two of them being shot in the exchange. He also said that one of the suspects may have been hit as well.

Police say both suspects managed to get away by foot. They allegedly carjacked a white Chevrolet Camaro from a couple. Police later found the abandoned vehicle.

Officer Aliro Pellerano, 38, was hit in his left arm and chest and Officer Andrew Dossi, 30, was struck in his left arm and lower back. Both officers were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital where they are in critical but stable condition. Officials say both officers are expected to recover.

"This is another indicator of the dangers our officers face in the line of duty," said New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has found himself at odds with some in his police force in recent weeks. "They went above and beyond the call to protect their fellow New Yorkers," added Mayor Bill de Blasio. "Thank God the officers are doing well and will recover."

Authorities were notified later of a man with a gunshot wound to the back at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. They are trying to determine if the man is connected to the crime.

Stay tuned for the latest on this developing story.

Interesting. What is up with people lately? CNN showing officers turning their backs on the Mayor. These off the wall delinquents running around with huge pistols acting like its the 1900's where they rob and shoot at people. It is just so ridiculous. Eventually this catches up with you.

Eventually officers were shot down before as well, but now all of this comes to the front page. Is this helpful in any way?
