Cook County (IL) Sheriff's police officer Jason Gallero collapsed Thursday morning during a run at the sheriff's police academy where he was an instructor.

He was taken to Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:30 a.m. An autopsy discovered he died of heart disease, and his death was ruled natural.

“Jason was beloved by countless friends, family members, and his fellow officers," the Cook County Sheriff’s Office stated.

Officer Jason Gallero, 45, was a 22-year veteran of the department and worked as an instructor at the training academy. He first started his career with the sheriff’s office in the department of corrections in 1994, and then joined the sheriff’s police in 2002.

He is survived by a daughter, and other family members.
