Officer RIchard Champion of the Perryopolis borough Police Department was killed in a car accident during a pursuit of another vehicle. During the pursuit a vehicle turned in front of Officer Champion causing the accident on Pittsburgh Road, in Perry Township at around 1:00 pm. Officer Richard Champion became trapped in his vehicle as it caught fire, by standers attempted to break the windows to assist the Officer but were unable to help him. The other driver was transported to hospital in critical condition. The driver he was pursuing continued on and is still at large.
Officer Champion is survived by his wife and a 16 month child. Officar Richartd Anthony Champion was a miltary veteran.
