Memphis authorities say a police officer, who was hit by the fleeing vehicle of a man suspected in a shooting that left three people injured, died Saturday night.
Officer Verdell Smith, 46, an 18-year veteran of the Memphis Police Department was pronounced dead at 10:43 p.m. from his injuries.
The suspect who fled on foot, was later apprehended. He was transported a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation is ongoing. Police have yet to identify the suspect.
