Police said they have issued an arrest warrant for Justin Ross Harris, the dad of 22 month old boy that died in the car. Police claim the suspect purposefully left his son to die in his hot car.
Harris told police he forgot to drop his son off at day care that morning. Police say before getting to work, Harris stopped to pick-up breakfast less than a mile away. After that he drove
to work and got out of his car, leaving his son in the backseat. During lunch Harris returned to his vehicle. He opened the door on the driver's side and placed something inside.
Police didn't release any information on how they know this. “The chain of events that occurred in this case do not point toward simple negligence and evidence will be presented to support this allegation,†a statement released by police.
Harris told authorities he left work at 4 p.m. and while he was driving he spotted his son still sitting in the backseat. He then drove into a parking lot, took his son out of the car. "He pulled over and screamed for help", witnesses said.
Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office said an autopsy results showed the victim died of hyperthermia, and that the investigation "suggests the manner of death is homicide".
More details in this story will be released as they are made available.
