Authorities say a Georgia woman was high on synthetic marijuana when she stole a police car and led cops on a high-speed chase before causing a four-car crash on a highway.
The incident began after Cobb County police stopped Emmerli Wilcoxson, 40, on the street because she matched the description of a woman that was reportedly armed in the area on Sunday.
While the police were questioning her, she managed to get into the marked police car and speed away on Interstate 75 southbound, police said.
According to police, the suspect allegedly drove at speeds exceeding 130 MPH and yelled into the police radio before she caused a serious crash at the North Avenue exit in downtown Atlanta.
Police said Wilcoxson ran the police car into the back of a Chevy cavalier, sending both cars into a wall. Police say the cavalier then hit another car. In total, four vehicles were involved in the crash.
Authorities said Wilcoxson then got out of the vehicle and charged at the officers before she was subdued.
Wilcoxson was treated for severe head trauma at Grady Memorial Hospital. She was then transported to the Cobb County Jail.
Investigators said one of the officers was injured during the incident, but did not release any other information. They also reported the driver of the cavalier, Greg Titus, suffered severe injuries to his lower body and had to be extracted from the vehicle.
