Somerville police and residents are protesting the mayor's refusal to take down a Black Lives Matter banner from City Hall.

Police have refused to accept the mayor's option of having both BLM and Police Banner hanging over the entrance above City Hall.

The police banner currently hangs over the entrance of police headquarters and states, "In honor and remembrance," with the photo of the Dallas Police Department badge and a black band.

Protesters chanted "All lives matter!" and "Take it down!" Many held signs saying "Cops lives matter" and "Support your local police."

"That sign is not coming down," said Mayor Joe Curtatone.

President of Somerville Police Employees Association, Michael McGrath said "The banner implies that Somerville police officers are somehow responsible for racially motivated decision-making against minorities."
