If speed camera are placed n roads and highways for the purpose of public safety, then why are they hidden? Where I live, speed cameras are concealed behind port-a-potties at road work areas and cop cars are unmarked. If it is for safety, then why not have marked cars and flashing bright cameras to warn people to slow down. It seems to be a way for someone to make money instead.

I'm not a cop, but I think that's the intention. If people were blatantly aware of these traps, then they would correct their driving habits only close to that area. I don't these camera being hidden causes a safety concern. If anything, it will cause erratic drivers to get tickets for speeding, and hopefully force them to correct their driving habits.
