Sunday morning a concerned citizen waved down Richmond Police Officer Ramon Morales to notify him that a woman was sitting on the train tracks. The citizen explained to the officer that the woman would not budge from the train tracks.
Officer Morales took off in his patrol car and arrived to the scene just in time. The crossing arms at the intersection were on the way down. With the oncoming train speeding towards the woman, Officer Morales jumped out of his car and sprinted to her. He took the woman from under hers arms and pulled her off the train tracks just a few seconds before the train went barreling past them.
"He got there just in time. Saved this woman's life without regard for his own," Sgt. Neinast said. Sgt. Neinast saw the heroic officer in action from the footage that was taken from Officer Morales dash camera.
"As the video goes on, she asked him if he's the one that pulled her off the tracks and he said, 'Yes I am of course.' She said, 'Why did you do that?' He was a little shaken up over the circumstances. I think even more so after he saw the video real zing how close it was. He's a hero. He went way above and beyond the call of duty to save someone else's life," said Sgt. Neinast said.
Police haven't released the woman's name. The woman was taken to Oak Bend Hospital for an evaluation.
