Family of five from Vermont were arrested after assaulting police officers. The incident happened in Canobie Lake Park in Salem, N.H. It began when security guards noticed some members of the Perry family entering the park with knives on their belts. The guards informed the family they were not allowed to enter with the knives. They were told to put their knives in their car and then they would be allowed in. The Perry family told the guards they didn't want to do that. A big argument erupted between the Perry family and guards. When things got out of control security guards called in the police.
When the Salem officers responded the family became even more irate. They began to scream at the officers and guards. The officers told the family several to calm down or they would be arrested. After a few warnings the officers tried to handcuff one of the men in the family. While attempting to arrest him, family members attacked the two officers. They jumped on the backs of the officers. They began to kick and punch them. They also tried to grab the officers guns, a police spokesperson said. When backup showed up at the scene they noticed the mother of the Perry family having a seizure. They determined she
was faking. Police said paramedics examined her at the scene and was deemed fine.
All five family members appeared in a New Hampshire court. Their charges range from felony riot, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass.
Three of the family members were held on $10,000 cash bail. They were assigned a public defender and scheduled to go back to court on June 25.
The other two were released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
Two officers were injured in the attack. One officer had minor injuries. The other was treated at a local hospital for a dislocated shoulder.
