A Florida man accidentally shot and killed his teenage son at a Sarasota gun range on Sunday, July 3.
Authorities said William Brumby, 54, was firing his handgun when a spent shell casing bounced off a wall and then fell down the back of his shirt.

"Brumby then used his right hand, which was holding the handgun, in an attempt to remove the casing," the Sarasota County Sheriff's office said in a statement. "While doing so, he inadvertently pointed the firearm directly behind him and accidentally fired."

The bullet struck his son Stephen Brumby, 14, who was standing right behind his dad. Police say the bullet hit the victim in the jugular vein. He was transported to the local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police are calling the shooting accidental. As of Tuesday, no charges have been filed against the father, said Sarasota County Sheriff's officials.
