Major Jay R. Memmelaar, Jr. passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017.
Major Memmelaar, 49, who served the Goldsboro Police Department passed away after suffering a heart attack.
Authorities say he was working out in the police department's gym when he started to feel chest pains. He stopped his routine and went back to his office. Shortly thereafter he suffered a heart attack. He was transported to Wayne UNC Health System where he was pronounced deceased.
Major Memmelaar, 49, was with the Goldsboro Police Department for twenty five years. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
