Authorities in Medina, Minnesota have charged a 23-year-old man after they say he attacked a sheriff's deputy with a machete.

The incident began after his parents called 911 to report their son was suicidal. Parents told authorities their son had talked about "suicide by cop."

According to the criminal complaint, police found Donald Nichols wearing body armor and a helmet while holding a machete. Authorities say Nichols pointed the machete towards the two officers. He was ordered to drop it, but he refused.

According to the complaint, when Nichols allegedly raised the machete over his head, a deputy shot him with a Taser. Nichols then ran towards the deputy while swinging the machete. The deputy blocked it with his baton. The suspect hit the baton a few more times, and also struck the upper body of the deputy. When Nichols made the attempt to stab the deputy, Sgt. Jason Nelson shot him.

Nichols was transported to the hospital, but now is in the Hennepin County jail.

He was charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. His bail has been set at $150,000.

Sgt. Nelson has been placed on standard paid administrative leave.

Wow... This guy deliberately goes after cops with a knife and is alive in the hospital, but with Michael Brown, he was gunned down on the spot with no weapon at all and the cop claimed that he had no choice but to kill him. Strange?

Again another ax attack, what a strange fashion these days, I hope he remains arrested until he clears his mind.

Just like PatyCake, I was thinking of Michael Brown. His humanity was not valued.
There are other differences between Michael Brown, and Donald Nichols. Nichols' parents called the police. They warned the police about the boy being suicidal. The police surmised that Nichols was severely mentally ill, and in need of care. Donald Nichols' humanity was valued and appreciated.
