Westwego police officer Michael Louviere was fatally shot Friday, January 20, 2017.
Authorities say officer Louviere had ended his shift at 6 a.m. Friday and was headed home. Still in uniform, he stopped to assist a traffic accident. That is when the suspect shot the officer in the head. The suspect later committed suicide.
Officer Michael Louviere, 26, was with the Westwego Police Department for a year and half. Before that he was a U.S. Marine who served in Afghanistan.
He leaves behind his wife, Ashley, and two small children.
