A New York police officer shot and wounded a knife-wielding attacker while responding to a report of an emotionally disturbed person in Brooklyn, police said.
Simon Zemshman, 27, who police described as “irrational,†allegedly lunged at the officers. The incident happened at 68th Street and Avenue T in the Bergen Beach neighborhood around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
“He immediately ran toward them in an irrational manner,†said NYPD Assistant Chief Steven Powers.
The police officers backed up. One of the officers fired two times, hitting Zemshman once in the stomach.
Zemshman was transported to Kings County Hospital and is expected to survive.
