Video: 4 dead, 2 decapitated in Brazil prison riots

Dear god.. that must be incredibly traumatising for people. Imagine the fear the people must have had during that time being held hostage or when they were in the arms of the rioters. That is honestly terrifying. Really feel for them and thoughts go out to their families.

    Children?

Don't really know what this question has to do with anything, but every officer I know/knew has a family. Mostly small with one or two children.

Do police retire poor or rich?

This depends both on their country and how much they have been saving for their investment. There are many countries that just simply do not give a good salary to their police force.

    Improvements to the police academy?

During your time there, what do you feel could be improved on that would really make a big difference to a lot of people?

Fellow officer breaks the law to help someone, what do you do?

Do you feel you should let it slide because he's helping someone out or do you feel it is your duty to step in and take action?

School asks officer not to wear uniform or sidearm while picking up daughter

I'm completely understanding the point. However, there are two sides to this point. 1) That completely shielding your child from stuff like guns is bad because they will never, ever either feel comfortable around guns (what if they were held at gun point. They would just freeze rather than try...

School asks officer not to wear uniform or sidearm while picking up daughter

I mean that people can do terrible things anywhere. So I mean it in the sense that it is good that the officer was there and ready for any disturbances or issues. There have been many known incidents where crimes have been committed on school properties that involved injuries, sometimes fatal...

What are offenses or crimes an officer "can" commit before he's removed from duty?

Re: What are offenses or crimes an officer "can" commit before he's removed from duty Very good points being made, I have to agree with them all. Keep them coming!

School asks officer not to wear uniform or sidearm while picking up daughter

You never know what could happen at any point in time. I think we've heard enough terrible stories about what people are capable of.

Have you ever been in a riot?

I completely agree with you but this thread was more so out of the perspective of the person in the riot. Either part of the cause or part of the police force. I didn't want this thread to be an opinion thread.

    What's wrong with people

How does he have the patience to deal with someone like that? You gotta give credit where credit is due! Good on him for not completely losing it, especially on a 15 year old girl. Impressive.

School asks officer not to wear uniform or sidearm while picking up daughter

You know times are bad when you don't even feel safe from the one person who's duty is to protect you. Honestly, how can parents not even speak to their children and explain to them that they are completely safe with someone like this around? Amazing.

Getting myself ready to begin the police academy

Prepare to take a shouting to the face, to be insulted and you definitely have to be in shape! It's a very tough experience so prepare yourself mentally for everything that will happen. Mind over body! Just think about you succeeded with the academy, not with the academy itself. When you don't...

physical aspect of the police academy compare to military basic training

The military will be far, far more demanding and strict then then police academy. That's obviously not to say that the police academy will be easy - it's still demanding!

What are offenses or crimes an officer "can" commit before he's removed from duty?

Re: What are offenses or crimes an officer "can" commit before he's removed from duty But what if he broke the law that did not endanger anyone in order to prevent a crime. Be it serious or minor? What if he broke a law that allowed someone to live?

What are your views on all cops having to wear a camera while on duty?

Indeed, I heard about this! I really don't know why there isn't a bigger craze and demand for police wearing cameras.

Does Military service help you get into the academy?

Yes, it definitely helps you out. It's a good thing to have written down as to your passed. Also, the exercise and fitness that you'll have will be an incredibly help. It gives a huge head starts but it's not an automatic pass!

Where Do You Draw The Line?

I would say if it's a very serious crime then putting yourself into some sort of harm is what you should do to stop it. I don't really believe that putting your life on the line should be an option unless saving several people's life would be the end result.

What do you do to relax?

Oh man, this would be awesome if you had the house to yourself and you could just fall asleep for a small while. There's just something about baths and showers that are extremely relaxing. I guess it's just the fact that you've the room to yourself! It's just a shame that I only have a shower in...
