Hey there, I feel like this is a good place to ask. What are your opinions on a citizen defense force? I read an article a few days back where during the LA riots, a bunch of korean citizens banded together with weapons to defend their shops and homes, and much of Koreatown was spared. From what I've heard, a similar thing is happening in Ferguson. What do you guys think of this? Do you think they're more trouble than they're worth?
 
I think that's an excellent idea since we can't rely solely on the police to protect us.We should also endeavor to make our neighborhoods secure and what better way to do that than join forces with our fellow citizens !
 
While I think this is a good idea, won't this become corrupted too? I mean, this was initially the police force's duty, wasn't it? But they got corrupt and insane with power along the way, and now we're here, having to protect ourselves against our protectors.

Sure, as long as they would be supervised and they won't become corrupt, this would be ideal.
 
How well this could work in practice would largely depend on how well the defense force is equipped, and if they are held accountable by any higher authorities.
 
I think that it is a good idea as long as everyone in the group wants to work with others to enhance security in their region. Besides, citizens should work together with the police to create a crime free community.
 
That's a good question, I think it's a good ideal. I know for a fact that the people have the right to police themselves, we just waive that right all the time. If the people could just handle their own problems it would minimize the need for police. It's important to organize and defend ourselves from the corruption that has plagued this nation.

Well, I can never see myself arguing against self defense because I'm a firm believer in it. But don't most shop owners keep a weapon under the store counter anyway?
 
I think it's a good idea as long as the people are all on one accord. And especially if the defense force is structured right with leadership, trust and cohesiveness. Many areas can benefit from this.
 
When a town gets too out of hand, than I believe in citizens organizing to combat this. You have to defend your town or be killed by it.
 
I feel this is very similar to forming militias in time of needs and support it fully as a citizens right. I fully believe that these types of situations were what people had in mind when they put the second amendment in place. I do not think the right to bear arms is to only protect us against outsiders, it is to protect our way of life when we don't know how to control ourselves.
