New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton announced he will be stepping down from his role by the end of 2017.
He is currently in his second stretch as commissioner in New York. Bratton first led the department from January 1, 1994 thru April 15, 1996. He began serving as Mayor Bill de Blasio's police commissioner in January 2014.
I have the luxury of going when I want to go, Commissioner Bratton said. I'm not going to be here in the second term. That's the reality of it.
