ATHENS, Ala. Athens Police Department will now be able to buy a new tool to help find missing children.
It has been reported that the city has received notice from Gov. Bentley’s office Thursday that the Police department has been awarded a $15,816 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant to purchase a child’s digital fingerprint scanner. It can be used when a child and their parents are separated. The parent will have all of the child’s identification that will be needed to help search for them.
Up until now the officers have been using ink to record the child's fingerprints for this program. The scanner can provide a better, more accurate recording.
