NYPD Detective Miosotis Familia was shot and killed on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 while sitting in her police car.
Authorities said the incident happened shortly after midnight. Familia, 48, was sitting in her vehicle 34-year-old when Alexander Bonds walked up to the patrol car and fired once through the passenger window, hitting Familia in the head.
The gunman took off from the scene. Shortly after that, police caught up to him. They fatally shot him after they said he turned his weapon on them.
Detective Familia was with the New York City Police Department for twelve years, she was assigned to the 46th Precinct.
She is survived by her mother, 20-year-old daughter and 12-year-old twins, a girl and a boy.
