Family Perks

I've had classmates in high school that were always up to no good but never arrested because his dad was a cop. Is that one of the family perks of having a relative in the force? It seems like it's a automatic phone call to the relative and booommmmm!! You don't get arrested. It's like nothing ever happened. Is it a perk to be related to a police officer?
 
By up to no good do you mean something mischievous or illegal? What were they doing that you think he should be imprisoned or be punished? And I think kids that are underage can't be charge with a case by virtue of the law. So usually they just go scat free from their violations.
 
I don't know about that. I think if "everyone" knew about that happening, the cop would be under heavy scrutiny. And maybe he was punished by way of community service.
 
It might depend on the parent. I know of an NBA player who was asked about whether he had been in trouble as a kid, since he was drafted to a team that had been having some issues with players getting DUIs and smoking pot ect. He said his dad was a cop and didn't let him get in any trouble. So definitely some kids parents do keep their kids in line. I would not be pleased at all with an officer who got their kids off, I think if it was my kid I'd take them down to the station and let them find out what happens to people who get in trouble.
 
I'm not a cop, but I think every circumstance is different. I'm sure there may be some instances where this happens. But, I think the same can be said for the family of people in positions in other areas as well. (Political, Sports, Celebrity, etc.)

I don't think it's fair or right, but people use their power/privilege to their advantage.
