Firearm in the glove box

I keep my sidearm in my glove box with my papers, what should I do when I get pulled over? Do I tell the officer that my firearm is in the glove box and that I'm getting my papers, or should I let him get them?

Keep your hands on the steering wheel and inform the officer when he walks up to the door, and follow instructions from there.
