A former Grand Rapids Christian radio host admitted in a Michigan courtroom that he photographed sex acts with a 12-year-old boy.
John Balyo, 34, pleaded guilty in federal court on two charges involving child pornography and sexually assaulting a child.
Balyo confessed to meeting with another man and a 12-year-old boy in a Kalamazoo hotel room in April. Both men are suspected in sexually assaulting the victim.
Balyo explained to the judge what did to the victim was wrong. “I performed a sexual act as described and I knowingly possessed the images on my camera,†he said in court. “I knew it was wrong.â€
Assistant U.S. Attorney Tessa Hessmiller described the horrific act as “sadistic and masochistic†bondage.
In exchange for his plea deal, Balyo agreed to testify against Ronald Lee Moser, 41, who allegedly participated in the sexual assault.

Balyo will not be charged with additional federal charges as the investigation moves on. According to court documents, Moser admitted to taking sexually explicit images of the victim.
U.S. Attorney Pat Miles said he wasn’t shocked that Balyo had agreed to plead guilty. “I was very pleased by his plea and that this federal case has moved quickly. It will save a lot of resources,†Miles said.
Balyo's defense attorney, David Dodge, said in a statement, "John Balyo is completely remorseful and is taking every step to reduce the trauma and misery of people having to come to court. Balyo is proactively resolving this with full acceptance of responsibility," Dodge added.
Balyo could face 50 years in prison. He is expected to be sentenced in November.
