Has the AR15 improved over the years?

The AR15 if you have not already known has been around since 1958. It was invented by a guy named Eugene Stoner which the gun has been used by civilians, law enforcement, and I think military. The gun has been the primary base design for the M16 assault rifle. Over the years I have noticed that there are numerous gun making companies that have made their own design of the AR15. I want to know has the AR15 improved over the years with fixing the jam tendency or not?

That's a technical question that to be honest I don't have the answer for Profit, is it a weapon that police officers use?
